Sekhmet Sisterhood, is a newly established 501c3 non-profit organization devoted to empowering women to make a difference and change the world by banding together, sharing experiences and supporting each other.
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Milly Shapiro, a bright voice in the Sisterhood movement, and a multitalented performer in her own right.

MM: Who are your career inspirations?
MS: For me, my career inspirations are Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, and Emma Stone. Because they are empowered women who make me feel like I can achieve the same goals and they would be happy to see me up there with them. They support other women, are wondrously talented and hard working. They create characters that people can relate to and It did not always come easy for them, they each had their hardships, and they are not afraid to talk about them, which makes them even more inspiring.
MM: What do you look for in mentoring?
MS: The thing I look for the most in mentoring is someone who can give me advice and someone to talk to who has experience in the area I am interested in. It is really important to feel comfortable with your mentor, it helps you get the help you need, and makes it a more enjoyable experience. Throughout my life, I have had many incredible mentors who have helped me succeed in many different aspects of life and I would not be where I am today or even the person I am today without their guidance.
MM: How do you hope to mentor future generations?
MS: I hope to inspire younger generations with my stories of success and failure and hardships to let them know that it isn’t always perfect and it’s hard work and they can do it too if they are willing to put in the work to achieve their dreams. I had many mentors that helped me and this makes me want to help others because not everyone has access to or knows people that can and are willing to mentor them. We all need help along the way on the way to achieve our dreams, no one can do it alone and I want to help people achieve their dreams as others helped me.
MM: What does sisterhood mean to you?
MS: Sisterhood to me means a group of empowered women who help and support one another to achieve their dreams and not only do they help and support each other, they are happy for each other when these dreams are achieved. Having a sisterhood makes you feel empowered and less alone, they bring you up with them and they want everyone to succeed, and be happy.
