Hello Beautiful People,
One hour.
3,600 seconds.
6o minutes.
ONE HOUR.
That’s how long it took for the Hit List Concert at 54 Below to sell out.
And oh my goodness, what a beautiful thing.
I’m going to go ahead and say it now, perhaps that was the worst move NBC did, canceling this show – cause clearly, there’s still a passion for the story and the music among theatergoers and NYC folk. (I’ll say it gain, the 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM shows sold out in one HOUR.)
For me, this is just another beautiful example of the tenacity and temperament of theater people – when knocked down, they always persevere. You can take away the primetime slot, but you can’t take away what the music of Hit List (Drew Gasparini (Make Me Bad), Joe Iconis (The Black Suits), Andrew McMahon, Tony Award nominees Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (A Christmas Story, Dogfight), Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) and Lucie Silvas) meant to people
The Hit List concerts will be presented by Julia Brownell, Joshua Safran (executive producer and showrunner of the second season of “Smash”) and Jennifer Ashley Tepper.
Benjamin Rauhala (Pippin) will be the musical director of Hit List, which will feature a full band.
And last but not least, the Hit List Concert will feature the original trio from the show – Jeremy Jordan, Andy Meintus, and Krysta Rodriguez.
NBC might have given Hit List the boot, but hey – Broadway, here they come! (We can only hope.)
Congrats to my dear friend Jennifer Tepper for being such a fearless leader – and to everyone involved with the creation of Hit List.
