Hello Beautiful People!
A lil recap, about The 12 Days of Books, for those who are late to the parrrrrtay.
Each day, we’ll go through the following…
- TINSEL TITLE TIP. What does this mean? It’s just a suggestion for the perfect gift, stocking stuffer, holiday grab bag item…you get the idea.
- MERRY MEMORY LANE – Sara + I will suggest a childhood favorite, perfect for your little ones.
- GIVE IT BACK – For each day, we’ll highlight one charity that does a world of good. These organizations are the beautiful bits of humanity. They are the glow to your holiday sparkle. And we just love ‘em.
And so, without further ado, welcome to DAY TEN!
Tinsel Title Tip, Day 10
I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban, by Malala Yousafzai. When Malala was 15-year-old, Taliban stormed her school bus in search of their next victim. In search of Malala. The date was October 9th 2012, and they shot her in the head in an attempt to silence her – for Malala was, is, and always be a writer, an advocate for education, and she was leading a campaign for girls’ rights to go to school. Her shooting, and her refusal to stand down from what she believed was right, brought to light the plight of millions of children around the world who are denied an education today. I AM MALALA is her story. Go get yourself a copy…now.
Merry Memory Lane, Day 10
Megan’s Pick – The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Maybe it’s because The Secret Garden was my first Broadway show. Maybe because I thought India was some sort of magical land. Maybe it’s because I wanted to be as rambunctious as Daisy. Who knows. Whatever the reason, I absolutely adore this story. It’s weaves together love, magic, faith, and family seamlessly. There’s a reason it’s a classic!
Sara’s Pick – Madeline, by Ludwig Bemelmans. Madeline is still one of my favorite book characters (maybe it’s because of our red-hair connection) and she immediately made me want to visit Paris. This book has all the makings of a classic: a spirited heroine, beautiful illustrations, humor, and rhyming.
Give Back, Day 10
