Hello Beautiful People!
It’s the LAST DAY OF THE 12 DAYS OF BOOKS.
I know, I’m heartbroken, too.
But there’s still 13 Days left of the Christmas season. And then there’s The 12 Days of More Love Letters. And then there’s NEW YEAR’S EVE! And then, well, then it’s 2014. And I’m wishing all of you beautiful readers the best + brightest + most wonderful year yet.
Cause ya deserve it.
Cause each year, cause each DAY is a new beginning.
Now, here’s a lil recap, about The 12 Days of Books, for those who ARE JUST COMING to the parrrrrtay. (What the heck were ya thinkin’?)
Each day, we’ll go through the following…
- TINSEL TITLE TIP. What does this mean? It’s just a suggestion for the perfect gift, stocking stuffer, holiday grab bag item…you get the idea.
- MERRY MEMORY LANE – Sara + I will suggest a childhood favorite, perfect for your little ones.
- GIVE IT BACK – For each day, we’ll highlight one charity that does a world of good. These organizations are the beautiful bits of humanity. They are the glow to your holiday sparkle. And we just love ‘em.
And so, without further ado, welcome to DAY TWELVE! (And make sure you catch up on Days 1-11, too!)
Tinsel Title Tip, Day 12
Morning Glory, by Sarah Jio. I am a bookworm. I am a lover of language and literarure and all things words. But, above all else, I am a storyteller, which makes it all the more magical when I am able to find a kindred spirit storyteller. A wordsmith with the capaiblity to draw me in…for forever really. Because that’s what brilliant authors do, they take up residence in your heart and memory for the rest of your life. And. It’s Awesome. Sarah Jio is one of those authors, which is why you should absolutely get yourself a copy of Morning Glory. In all her novels, she fuses the past, the present, and the shades of grey of humnity with perfection. In Morning Glory, we’re taken to Boat Street, a floating community on Seattle’s Lake Union. Ada Santorini has made this community her home, her sanctuary, and her new lease on life. But when she discovers a trunk left by Penny Wentworth – the serenity of Ada’s life becomes a distant memory.
Here’s the official book blurb –
Go. Get. This. Book. Now.
Merry Memory Lane, Day 12
Megan’s Pick – The Angelina Ballerina Series, by author Katharine Holabird and illustrated by Helen Craig. There’s over twenty books in the series now, but when I was younger, I just remember loving the first book in the series, Angelina Ballerina. I too was an aspiring ballerina. I love the tutus, the music…the beauty of it all. I remember making my mom read the book to me over and over again, and yes, I do have a rather vintage copy on my own bookshelf. The greatest thing about Angelina was that she always kept her eyes on her dream of being a ballerina. Were there setbacks? Sure. Did she make mistakes? Absolutely. But she always learned from them.
Sara’s Pick – A Pizza the Size of the Sun, by Jack Prelutsky. My 1st grade teacher gave me a copy of this book and I fell in love with it instantly. I think this book sparked my own interest in writing, and caused me to write my own illustrated story books when I was 6. Prelutsky’s rhymes have stuck with me through the years and his wild imagination inspires me still.
Give Back, Day 12
