Hello Beautiful People,
This past Friday, our founder had the unbelievable pleasure of visiting Books of Wonder in Manhattan, New York.
Located at 18 West 18th Street, Books of Wonder is just…wonderful.
There is an entire back wall that is full of Old & Rare books…and for the bookworms of the world, it’s truly amazing.
We actually saw the ARC, (Advanced Reading Copy), of The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. So. Freaking. Cool.
There’s a cafe. (Which is empty now, due to the struggling finances of the store.)
There is bookish art on all of the walls, available for sale. Original copies The Wizard of Oz series, C.S. Lewis favorites, and many, many, many more.
This store, like so many Indie Bookstores, is in trouble. Like The Shop Around the Corner in You’ve Got Mail, corporate chains are making it harder and harder for the little bookstores to survive.
Here at The Write Teacher(s), we’ve taken The Bookstore Pledge, and made it our mission to highlight one Indie Bookstore each month for the rest of the school year. September was Books and Books in Westhampton, NY.
October is dedicated to Books of Wonder in NYC, a store that is actually in danger of closing.
Visit their Indiegogo Campaign to see how YOU can help keep New York’s largest children’s bookstore alive.
