Hello and welcome to my introduction!
My name is Daisy Eagan. Long ago, before many of you were but a twinkle in your parents’ eyes, I played Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden on Broadway and won a Tony award for it. I am the youngest actress ever to have won.
I was born in Park Slope, Brooklyn and lived in New York for the first 23 years of my life. I moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and have been here ever since. In 2007 I quit acting and went back to school. I got back into the business about 4 years later, worked consistently, and then got pregnant and had a beautiful son. And now, here I am writing this introduction while my one-year-old naps. Currently I am playing Mae Scriven in “Stoneface: The rise and fall and rise of Buster Keaton” at the Pasadena Playhouse. It has been my dream to work at the Playhouse for a long time now and I’m honored to be there.
The question I’m asked the most by theater types is, “What is it like to be the youngest actress ever to win a Tony?” I believe another question that people want to ask but don’t because they’re worried they’ll hurt my feelings is, “Why didn’t you have a bigger career?” My aim with this blog is to shed some light on both of those questions.
Chances are very good that you did not win a Tony award at 11, but chances are also good that you hope to maybe win a Tony some day (and I hope you do!). So, while my experience was unique and extremely atypical, I hope I can shed some light on what it’s like to win a Tony and what you can do to make smarter choices than I have in order to build on each success you have. I’ll tell some stories and take any questions you might have for me. I’m excited to join the team here at The Write Teacher(s)!
Happy reading!
