Hello Beautiful People,
So, I had a completely different post scheduled for today.
So very different.
But, as I sat down at my desk this morning, there was a package waiting for me!
And, although I am a grown woman, I will admit that I get giddy about packages. Call me a cheese ball, call me an old soul – there’s something real special about mail that comes in the flesh. From the postman.
There’s something real special about mail that you can touch. And hold.
But alas, I digress.
A couple of months ago, I posted about how much I adore Emily Ley’s Simplified Planner — it’s one of the greatest gifts to those who love the pen & paper feel of organizing one’s brain.
Recently, I lost the planner, (and then it was found, but more of that story can be found here.)
Since purchasing my beloved planner, the pink band that adds that final touch to the binder broke. I emailed Emily to see if there was anything that could be done to fix it, and while there was nothing that could be done to mend the original band, Emily said that they would send me a new band to replace the one that had snapped.
Cue the package that appeared on my desk this morning.
My band had arrived!
But, what’s more touching than the new goods, is the fact that Emily wrote me a card, apologizing that the original band had snapped, thanking me for my business and support.
Have I mentioned that this woman runs a small empire? And she’s a mommy to a three-year old? AND she’s pregnant with twins?!
I mean, wow.
Talk about business savvy. Talk about customer service. Talk about taking the time for the little details – I was honestly floored.
Cause I think, well, I think we all need to take the time to remember the tiny details. To take the time to say please & thank you. To take a moment to offer a stranger a smile. To take a minute to compliment someone’s child. Or outfit.
Or the fact that they handled themselves with grace & dignity in an undesirable situation.
I think the world needs more of that.
I was in a Starbucks the other day, patiently awaiting my coffee. And the fella next to me, he was rather attractive. And the girl on the other side of me, well, I just thought her whole outfit was fierce. Truly awesome.
But everyone in the store had their eyeballs glued to their phones. Because we’ve come to a place where we’re uncomfortable with the little moments of life that just require us to… be.
And hey, I’m guilty of it, too.
Cause I didn’t smile at the guy.
And I didn’t tell the girl – hey, your outfit is awesome.
I just diverted my own eyes to my precious iPhone, waiting for my coffee.
Now, if you’re still reading this post, bless you, for I swear there’s a point. A teachsperience in here.
The thank you note that Emily sent me, well, it reminded me of that morning in Starbucks. And about a billion more moments that I’ve had this summer, moments when I wish I would’ve put a smile or a thank you out into the world.
Cause, really, smiles & thank you’s are just as important as all the I love you’s. Because everyone should have some sort of bright spot in their day. Cause it’s always a wonderful thing to feel appreciated.
Thank you, Emily!
