Hello Beautiful People,
New York City is my city. For me, it is the best city on the planet. I love it’s charm. I love it’s culture. I love it’s grit. I love it’s glamour. And, I love how you never know who you’ll meet, at any given moment.
I had one of those days this past week, when, on my way to rehearsal for Lucky Disaster Volume 4, I stumbled across the Global Citizen Pop up Shop at the Paramount Hotel.
The pop up shop holds various fashion items that come with a purpose – favorites of mine are the one of kind jewlery pieces from The Giving Keys + Tee Shirts from Out of Print Tees, in which part
of the proceeds from the items sold will go to helping employ people transitioning out of homelessness in Los Angeles, and giving books to communities in needs, respectively.
Now, I must’ve been living under a rock for these past few years, cause never in my life have I heard of the Global Citizen or the Global Citizen Festival. And for those of you who have been under that rock with me, allow me to explain:
Global Citizen is a tool to amplify and unite a generation’s call for justice. It’s a place for you to learn and act, to bring an end to extreme poverty.
Global Citizens know that a world that deprives 1.2 billion people of their basic rights and opportunities is unjust and unacceptable. We celebrate the efforts made to cut extreme poverty by half, but recognise more still needs to be done. We know that people living in extreme poverty are working hard themselves, and that we need to learn and take action to change the rules that trap them in broken systems.
We use Global Citizen to learn more about issues, so we can take effective action for change and find opportunities to support campaigns and organisations creating sustainable change. Right now Global Citizen is in launch phase, but in coming weeks and months it will feature new issues, with the latest information and action opportunities, so you can take effective action for change.
There are more than 250,000 Global Citizens already taking action around the world – we hope that you join us.
The festival is another tool in this campaign to end extreme poverty. You must earn tickets to the concert, by sending emails, signing petitions, educating yourself on various policies and procedures around the globe, and becoming an active member in various organizations and your community.
The details of your action journey can be found here.
One of the things that is so appealing about the festival are the artists who are using their immense platforms for good. For justice. For change. They’re trying to leave this world a better place than they found it, and they’re urging us all to do the same.
