Hello Beautiful People,
Here’s a public service announcement – this post, well, it’s got a whole lot of cheese. Like ooey gooey brie. It’s full of positivity. It’s full of hope. It’s full of all things happy and cheery. Cause it’s 2014, and I’m so excited for all the projects and events and things that are in store for The Write Teacher(s). For my friends. For my students.
Lets go, 2014!
Ok, now that we got that PSA out-of-the-way, you should know that as I type this, the world outside is glittery and white. Hercules has left his mark, and, Idina Menzel is pouring through my speakers. No, I’m not listening to RENT. No, I’m not listening to WICKED. I’m listening to FROZEN.
Yes, you read that right, FROZEN.
I realize I am not a little kid. I’m not even a teenager. I get it. So perhaps some of you may be raising an eyebrow at the screen right now.
She’s talking about Frozen? Really?
And yes, yes I am. But more importantly, I’m talking about Idina singing Let It Go.
While there are a multitude of wonderful things about this song, the one thing in particular that gets me are the lyrics. Well, what gets in me in particular are these lyrics:
My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back, the past is in the pastLet it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway
See, I think that is beautiful. I think it’s empowering. I think, when my students are back from vacation – it’s the perfect journal prompt. What will you let go of in 2014? What storm has clouded your judgement that you’re now going to say goodbye to?
I think that’s the stuff that makes great leaders, lovers, people, grown ups. I think that’s the bits of life that we all have to remember – to persevere, to acknowledge the mistakes of yesteryear and then let it all go.
Cause really, what good does it do to hold onto the past?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say nothing. It doesn’t do anyone a world of good. And please, lets not misunderstand me here, I’m not saying to forget memories, I’m not saying that at all. What I AM saying, is that as these 362 untouched days stretch before you – let the past stay in the past. It doesn’t have to dictate your future.
What I am saying…is Let It Go.
Live, Love, Learn,
Thank you for sharing. Frozen Let It go song of the Year 2013.
