Hello Beautiful People,
Last night, I had the pleasure, the honor, the privilege of seeing one of my dear friends make her 54 Below debut.
Last night, my heart just exploded from the sheer joy that I, along with the entire audience of 54 Below experienced while watching Shakina Nayfack‘s One Woman Show. The amount of heart, love, and talent onstage was just unending. It was outstanding. The love in the room was palpable. Shakina, you beautiful woman you, everyone’s heart is a bit more full after seeing this show. So, here’s my unending praise to you, to Jeremy Robins Lyons, to Mike Rosengarten and the rest of the band, to Lauren Marcus, Rachel Lee, and every single “after party” lady, and finally, congrats to Joe Iconis and the other composers. You all are amazing.
For me, theater has always been about heart. About gut. About raw + beautiful honesty. About telling your story in the hopes to inspire others. To challenge others. To educate others. To love on others. To lift people up. To make people aware.
Shakina’s One Woman Show does that, and so much more.
It’s about honesty.
It’s about truth.
It’s about pain.
It’s about love.
It’s about growth.
It’s about exploration.
It’s about discovery.
It’s about acceptance.
It’s about…
…life.
I don’t care if your heterosexual, homosexual, transgender…this show will resonate with everyone.
Because, really, it’s about people.
And the connective tissue that unites all of humanity.
Love,
Lust,
Wants,
Needs,
Hope,
Faith,
Family…
Friends.
I mean, I think you get the picture, but it’s just about life.
Shakina has her own project, KickStartHer, which I implore you to look at, to research, to donate to, (by clicking here.)
She’s a force to be reckoned with, someone who makes this world a bit brighter.
I love you, Shakeeeeenz.
