This year I was asked to help the Stage the Change Conference in getting the word out about their work.
I myself had never been to the conference before, but I had heard wonderful things from my colleagues who had attended in previous years.
Stage the Change is an annual conference that was founded by Ruthie Pincus. It’s an event that gathers high school students from all around New York State, highlighting how theatre is a tool for social change. It combats hate, it raises awareness of a variety of social issues, and, most importantly, it brings young people together in the name of arts and education.
It. Is. Phenomenal.
While attending the conference, I had many “pinch me”, moments. As in, pinch me, this must not be real life.
For these students were amazing, the work deep, meaningful, and beautiful.
The thought about the world beyond their own neighborhoods, about narratives that were different than their own.
They dug deep and tried to understand the world better.
They listened more than they spoke.
They aimed to create something that would make the world better.
Stage the Change is a invaluable experience for educators and students alike. Find out additional information here, and be sure to join the magic next year!
