Hello Friends!
It’s that time of the week again – this weeks episodes were filled with drama and emotion, weren’t they?
GREY’S ANATOMY
This episode focused largely on Ellis Grey and Meredith’s memories of her. I’ve always really enjoyed learning about Meredith and her mother, and this was no different. Throughout the episode, we saw flashbacks of Ellis at her best, as well as the Ellis we knew when Grey’s Anatomy began, and the Ellis who was in a relationship with Richard as a resident. Meredith was trying to recall the series of events that led up to the birth of the sister she just learned about.
When Maggie resigns from her position, things start to spin in a different direction. Amelia tries to get Maggie to admit to Derek why she’s leaving. Bailey tries to get Richard to talk to her, not knowing that he’s her father, and Richard and Meredith are spending their time discussing what happened with her mother and trying to see if she wrote anything about it in her journals.
In the meantime, a young girl appears at the hospital with what initially appears to be a pregnancy, but turns out to be a growth in her abdomen. The parents appear to have abandoned her, but we discover later that her mother has been there the whole time – concerned that she and her daughter were going to be arrested for not having papers.
Alex is now working as an attending in Pediatrics, based on information from Arizona that the vote to put Bailey on the board was extremely close. Though Alex proves himself as a doctor working with the young girl and her mother, he does eventually find out that the board vote was unanimous. He’s angry, but eventually Arizona tells him that she needs him as an attending because of her new fellowship and trying to keep her marriage together. While he still wanted to be on the board, he seems to be okay with this.
Meredith and Derek are still fighting about DC, but when Derek finally learns from Maggie that she is the daughter of Ellis and Richard, things change. Not only does Derek welcome Maggie to his family, he finds Meredith and suspends their fighting. This is when we learn that Meredith can remember her mother being pregnant, though she didn’t understand what it meant. After her mother’s suicide attempt, they moved to Boston and lived in a tiny apartment for several months. After the baby was born, things seemed to go back to normal. It appears that Meredith eventually just considered it one of those weird things her mother did.
Richard also finally tells Meredith about what he and her mother were planning and what he said to her at the carousel, and Meredith seems to take it okay. She also eventually finds Maggie, showing her Ellis’ journal from the year she was pregnant with Maggie. Assuming that Maggie is now staying, and can eventually forgive Richard, this could be really good for all of them.
SCANDAL
Jake is back to his usual antics of blowing things up and not telling Olivia what he’s doing, and when she finally sits him down to talk about their days, her phone rings. It’s Karen, the only daughter of the President (now played by Mary Mouser), who is drunk, high, and at a party in the DC area. Olivia and Quinn show up to get her, and on the way back to the White House, Karen receives a message. It’s a video of Karen in a pretty raunchy sexual act with two other young men. Olivia calls Cyrus and tells him to wake the President, because this. is. serious.
Fitz, of course, is a wreck when he learns about it, and nearly takes Karen’s head off. Olivia stops him, and sends Karen to see the White House doctor. Fitz is upset about what is going on with Karen, but this is also the first time he’s been alone with Olivia since her return. When he asks her if she left alone, she lies and tells him yes.
Meanwhile, Jake is trying to get the files back that he gave to David, who initially refuses. Ultimately, we discover that Jake is trying to put together information that will eliminate Papa Pope from the picture, particularly since he threatened Jake. This ultimately results in Jake convincing Tom to tell the truth about a huge event – the death of Jerry Grant.
HTGAWM
Turns out Asher was also at the murder, trying to get in to Annalise’s office. He also mentioned that the trophy was his, and Michaela whispers that it’s all her fault.
Annalise and the prosecution are arguing over bail and Rebecca’s confession.
Wes tries to get the code to the phone.
Rebecca seems not to be talking.
Rebecca admits that she lied about the confession and that Wes told her that Griffin was going to pin it on her, which makes Annalise angry.
Michaela tries to be nice to Laurel, but it doesn’t go very well.
Annalise takes Wes off Rebecca’s case.
The teams next job is with a woman who purchased stock ahead of a favorable ruling for the stock. Marren, the client, insists she could never have had known that information, but the FBI shows Annalise a sex tape proving she had a personal relationship with the owner of the company whose stock she bought. Annalise sends her staff in to the company to find out if one of her employees is involved, as Marren insists she never bought the stock, but it doesn’t go very well.
When Marren finds out that Annalise is investigating her people, she’s furious and makes sure Annalise understands that she should never investigate her paople again.
Nate breaks into Sam’s car to find out where Sam went the night he disappeared (the night Lila was murdered), and Sam comes out of the house just in time to see Nate shutting his car door. Nate insists he saw the light on and was just turning it off, and Sam believes him, but Bonnie pulled up prior and saw Nate rummaging through the car.
Michaela nearly loses it.
Connor sleeps with an employee from Marren’s company.
Kan arrives to see Laurel and she and Wes talk to him about bail money for Rebecca.
Connor appears to be losing it when it comes to the murder of Sam.
Connor records a call that his sex buddy at Marren’s company has with someone, and uses his regular fuck buddy in an attempt to find out who Paxton is working with.
Bonnie tells the police department that she knows Nate is investigating Sam in order to get Rebecca’s confession tape.
“Shooting star” = suicide?
Marren finds out about Paxton and they get into an argument. When Marren says some things she can’t take back, Paxton jumps out the window.
Asher figures out that Jimmy and Talia are behind the stock purchase.
The team watches Rebecca’s confession. Bonnie does not tell Annalise about Nate investigating Sam.
Video shows coercion, Rebecca’s bail is reduced, and there will be an investigation into her interrogation.
Connor shows up at Oliver’s house after Sam’s murder. He appears to have completely cracked.
Oliver throws Connor out.
Rebecca returns to her apartment and Wes wants to talk to her, even though he’s not supposed to. He asks her about the phone again. Wes takes it to Annalise. She seems to be upset that he waited to give her the phone, but then she asks him to keep letting Rebecca trust her. She argues with him about using what is on the phone.
The last nine words, as promised, are surprising, though not completely unexpected. We all knew Sam was having an affair with the murdered co-ed.
Until next week, Gladiators!
