Ladies and Gents, did you watch two of my favorite shows last week?
They just keep getting better and better.
First, on Grey’s Anatomy, there is a serious earthquake. Not only does this bring in several patients who need help, but it launches a storyline that I really loved – an 11-year-old girl calls in to the hospital because her mother needs help, and she ends up on the phone with Owen, Amelia, and Richard. Owen talks the girl, Ruby, through several serious medical procedures (particularly for an 11-year-old) with the help of the other doctors, and eventually Ruby and her mother are picked up by a helicopter and brought to the hospital.
On the other end of the hospital, Meredith is on a streak. Over 80 successful surgeries, and several more about to be under her belt. As she performs a surgery on a young man who fell from a ski lift during the earthquake, Meredith discovers that she has been on her streak since the day Derek left for Washington, DC. At first it scares her, but eventually she realizes that it has allowed her to be the surgeon she has always known she could be, and that she wants to share all of that with her husband.
Callie performs surgery on an older woman who just wants to get back to having sex, and manages to convince Maggie to go out on a date with a radiologist she met in the elevator. As Owen and Amelia go to part for the evening, they discover that they can’t fight their feelings any longer and end up in an on-call room together. The episode appears to be ending well, until Meredith called Derek and a woman answered. Who is this woman, and what is she doing answering Derek’s phone?
On Scandal, Olivia is still struggling after her return home (no surprise there). She carries a gun around her house, and hasn’t gone back to work. It isn’t until the friend of Olivia’s neighbor, Lois, arrives to make sure Lois’ apartment isn’t emptied until she is found that Olivia finds something to get her out of her apartment. Olivia heads back to OPA to have Quinn and Huck go searching for Lois. Olivia can’t bring herself to tell Rose that she already knows Lois is dead, but she spends time getting to know Rose and discovers that she and Lois were in a relationship, and had been for a long time. When Quinn finally locates Lois’ body, Olivia accompanies Rose to the funeral.
Over at the Attorney General’s office, David Rosen is surprised when a woman comes in with B613 files. She tells David that her husband was a member of B613, and was tortured by them. When David arrives at OPA to talk to Jake about the woman, he says that her husband’s name is “Diego Munoz,” and Huck speaks up. That’s him. Huck confronts his wife, who says she believes that it is important that B613 not be left alone. Huck agrees to two things – with his wife, he agrees to testify, and with David and Jake he agrees not to say anything. During his deposition, however, Huck tries to keep from saying anything, but he can’t stop himself from talking about the hole they put him in. When it’s over, David tells Jake he’s going to pursue B613. They’re really going to get the bad guys this time.
At the White House, Abby and Cyrus are trying to prepare Susan Ross to be the next Vice-President, and it does not go well. After Susan tanks her first press conference, Abby and Cyrus call in Leo Bergen, whom Abby is dating, to try to prepare her for her appointment hearing. Things start to spiral out of control, and Susan Ross quits after several hours of being yelled at by Leo. At home, Abby fires Leo, who storms out of the house and Abby ends up having to call in reinforcements. Abby convinces Olivia to help because she’s doing it for Abby, not for Fitz, and Olivia manages to talk Susan into coming back for her appointment hearing. When the rumors start to spread that Susan won’t be appointed because Congress is mad at President Grant for the war in Angola, Abby even convinces Olivia to come speak with Fitz, who she hasn’t seen since her return to DC. Olivia convinces him to apologize to Congress, Susan nails her hearing, and the country has a new Vice-President – one Mellie hand-picked to be un-electable in the next election so that she can finally put her name forward for President of the United States.
