Hello Beautiful People,
The Tony Nominations come out tomorrow.
And…it makes me stop for a second.
See, I quite literally grew up in theaters. A soccer field was never my home. I wasn’t really good at doing that whole Girl Scout thing. I tried out for the cheerleading squad once – that was funny.
But the theatre crowd?
Those were my people.
The theatre, well, that was my home.
My family.
My tribe.
And now the Tony Awards are around the corner – and I just have to take a step back. And think about all of the amazing work that is going on. And the beautiful people who I am so very fortunate to know, creating magic both onstage and off.
And I just smile.
Yes, I smile.
As I’m typing this silly little post – I’m smiling about the people I know doing work on the Great White Way. I’m smiling about the stories that people never thought would make it so that they were shining under the lights. I’m smiling about the countless people I know who have yet to grace one of the 40 Broadway houses, but are doing truly tremendously beautiful work around the city. Around the country. Around the world.
I’m smiling because theatre, in a world of technological wonder, in a world where we are more abt to text than talk, well, theatre is still living. Theatre is thriving.
Because you can’t make an apple app that encapsulates the beauty between an audience and an actor in a musical or play.
To the nominees – whoever you may be, congratulations.
To everyone working on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theatres around the country, congratulations.
I’m proud to be part of your tribe.
