Musings, on this Tony Tuesday –
Theatre shapes our lives and tells the stories of our souls. It suspends our disbelief, and then strengthens our resolve. It gives hope, it gives us perspective, it gives us laughter.
It breaks our hearts, and makes them grow three sizes bigger than we ever imagined.
A theatrical production takes a village.
It is all the people. Doing all the things. Making all the magic.
It’s the actors onstage. The guys and gals on the grid. The ones running spots. The stage managers on headsets. The dressers. The house managers. The board ops.
And even before it gets to that, It’s the brainchild of the writers. The composers. The directors. The music directors. The orchestrators. The choreographers.
A theatrical production takes hours of time, sweat, blood, and tears. It’s a journey that is unlike any other, and one that I happen to cherish.
And once it gets to that Broadway stage, it’s about press agents. Marketing strategies. Ticket sellers. Graphic designers. Ways to intrigue the masses, ya dig?
Today we celebrate the nominees and this season, and I couldn’t be happier for so many colleagues that I’m fortunate enough to call friends.
Today we celebrate the most epic form of collaboration.
Congrats to all the nominees, to all the shows, to all the people making the magic of theatre come alive – on Broadway, Off Broadway, and all around the country.
HAPPY TONY TUESDAY!
