West of 10th will present the New York premiere of American Dreamers by Lia Romeo at The Workshop Theater’s Jewel Box Theater in New York City for a limited engagement beginning August 15th. The production follows its recent world premiere at Jersey City Theater Center in Summer of 2015.
American Dreamers is set in the not too distant past of November of 2016, where recent graduate Becca Barrington has been dumped by her boyfriend, rejected by every grad school she applied to, and ended up at a dead-end job in the town where she grew up. To pay off six-figure student loans, Becca decides to try working as an escort… but her first client turns out to be a mortifying surprise. But at least America is about to elect the first woman president… right?
Featured in the cast are Sarah Chalfie, Tony Christopher, Sue Kim, Timothy Mullins* and Violeta Picayo*. The production is directed by Molly Rose Clifford andproduced by West of 10th’s Co-Artistic Directors, Jen Sandler & Rachel Goodgal. The production is stage managed by Yve Carruthers, with lighting design by Cheyenne Sykes, sound design by Jessica Hart, set design by Melanie Waingarten, and costume design by Emily Bono. American Dreamers is an Equity Approved Showcase.
American Dreamers will begin performances on Wednesday, August 15th at 8pm and conclude its run on Sunday, August 19th. All performances are at 8pm, with an additional matinee on Saturday, August 18th.
