Mission Statement
The International Theatre and Literacy Project (ITLP) uses theatre as a means of social and educational uplift for children and teen-agers struggling with the challenges of poverty, crime, violence, gender inequity and inequality in developing countries. ITLP conducts theatre workshops to teach English, develop independent thinking, self-empowerment and gender equity. We strive to help young people advance their educational and employment opportunities and nurture their voices as leaders to enable growth, change and community development.
The International Theatre and Literacy Project provides children and teachers in developing countries with the tools and skills of playwriting, performing and the expressive arts to enhance and enrich their teaching and learning practices. Through community-based workshops that include developmental writing activities, ensemble building skills, public speaking and performance skills, and original theatrical productions ITLP strives to nurture creative self-expression, foster independent thinking, build positive self-esteem, develop proficiency in English, encourage social interaction and empower young people to have a voice in a diverse and changing world.

What do we do?
The International Theatre and Literacy Project (ITLP) is a non-profit organization that brings theatre artists from the United States to developing countries to conduct community- based playwriting and theatre workshops for secondary school students and teachers, nurturing their creative voices and providing them with the tools they need to give form and structure to their ideas and stories and developing their English literacy skills.
The ITLP program has a profound and moving impact on the lives of the students, opening up their imaginations, increasing their proficiency in English and changing their perceptions of themselves as young artists and citizens of the world.
