New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW), one of the city’s leading not-for-profit Off-Broadway theatre companies, seeks a dynamic and highly organized individual to assist in the daily operations of its Education Department.
For more than three decades, NYTW has provided a home to artists to hone their creative voice, a space for them to develop their projects and a platform to produce ground-breaking work. The Workshop is renowned for a long list of acclaimed work including Once, Jonathan Larson’s Rent, Rick Elice’s Peter and the Starcatcher, Tony Kushner’s Homebody/Kabul, along with Caryl Churchill’s Far Away, A Number and Love and Information. NYTW’s productions have received a Pulitzer Prize, 17 Tony Awards, and assorted OBIE, Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards.
NYTW’s Education Initiatives, including, Mind the Gap (Intergenerational Program), Learning Workshop (School Programs), Public Programs, Internships, and Master Classes provide access to the vision and methods of the artist, and enable audiences of all ages to participate in a community of dynamic learning where the developmental process, the final production, and the surrounding exchange of ideas have a profound impact on all involved. These initiatives strive to bring all members of our artistic family, which includes our audience members, closer to the creative process.
Duties and Responsibilities of The Education Assistant:
Report directly to Director of Education
Provide administrative support in the coordination and implementation of all Education programs, including: Mind the Gap participant recruitment, teaching artist school-based residencies, theatre-based public programs and master classes, and intern recruitment
Assist with the creation of educational materials and curriculum
Organize and maintain Education files and records
Maintain effective communication with NYTW’s educational partners
Assist with the documentation, assessment, and evaluation of all Education programs
Assist with intern management and supervision
Assist teaching artists or workshop facilitators as needed
Perform other administrative duties as requested
Ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Training in theatre, educational and/or applied theatre or relevant experience in arts education
Knowledge of the NYC public school system and passion for creating community among a diverse population of learners
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
The ability to multitask and collaborate with multiple individuals to achieve program goals
Familiarity with NYTW’s artistic mission
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs required; knowledge of Adobe Suite programs a plus
Additional Info:
Position is part-time, 15-20 hours/week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Start date in late September-early October 2015. NYTW is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
